Beat The Streets - New York City Wrestling

On Sunday, October 16, Beat the Streets hosted a wrestling clinic for nearly 50 student-athletes at the Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn featuring Coach Michele Liuzzi. The 12-time Italian world team member and 2-time Olympian went over a host of different techniques to aid in the technical education of NYC wrestlers.

Liuzzi told BTS that his favorite move is the inside trap, and he showed a few variations to the kids. After demonstrating that in the first half of his clinic, he showed several other moves, including the high crotch and the single leg.

He started coming to the United States in 2003 and helps conduct clinics around the country each year. He visited Oklahoma State, among other locations, taking time to visit with US Olympian and BTS board member John Smith, OSU’s head coach. Liuzzi complimented the beautiful scenery in Oklahoma and the quality of the wrestlers he worked with on this trip.

“It was great to have someone with that much experience in to help our athletes at Beat the Streets,” said BTS coach Jaime Gray. “I felt his energy and passion really connected with the kids and he was able to get a lot out of them throughout the day."
