Beat The Streets - New York City Wrestling

Save the date: Beat the Streets’ 4th annual Gotham City Girls Open, sponsored by Cliff Keen, will be taking place on April 22-23, 2017. Expect a high level of competition and thrilling matches that will pit NYC student-athletes against some of their top contenders from around the world.

Over the past four years, the Open has grown to become a premier event, featuring ever-growing numbers, national and international competitors, and has served as the birthplace for opportunities for some of our country’s National, Pan Am, and World Team Champions and All-Americans. Cliff Keen, one of the nation’s top producers of wrestling gear, has chosen to sponsor the event.

Starting in 2014 with only student-athletes from New York and neighboring states, now over 200 girls come together from across the United States and three other countries to wrestle at this event.

In its first year, 132 girls came out to Brooklyn to compete in the inaugural Open, with six local high school girls becoming champions.

At the 2015 tournament, Curtis HS of Staten Island claimed the tournament team title, with multiple NYC girls becoming individual division champions.

As the caliber of competition has increased, the event has become an international sensation in the world of women’s wrestling, the fastest growing girls sport in the country.

“By getting some of the toughest global talent to compete at Gotham City, our girls get to see what women's wrestling really looks and feels like. It forces our girls to start training, thinking and competing a different way,” said Jacque Davis, head girls’ coach for Beat the Streets, earlier this year.
