Beat The Streets - New York City Wrestling

John Bowne Senior Brandon Nunez claimed the 99lb Championship at the Sal DiFazio Holiday Tournament at Half Hollow Hills East to lead the PSAL wrestling contingent during winter break competition. Nunez received a bye in the opening round before recording pins in the preliminary, quarter, and semifinal rounds. In the finals Nunez dominated on his feet, recording a 12-5 decision over Riverhead’s Mark Matyka.  

Joining Nunez in the finals was Edward R. Murrow Junior John Paul Mendez. John Paul received a first round bye then proceeded to record preliminary and quarterfinal round pins. In his semifinal match, John Paul scored a one point escape late in the third period to secure a 1-0 victory and earn a final’s appearance.  In the championship finals, John Paul fell by a first period technical fall to Matt Milo of Commack High School.

220lbs: 6th, Jacob Putter (Truman)

285lbs: 3rd, Mike Babbcort (Wingate)

285lbs: 6th, Jimmy Gutierrez (Edward R. Murrow)
