Beat The Streets - New York City Wrestling

The Beat the Streets Annual Benefit: USA vs. Japan in Times Square on Wednesday, May 17 won't just be about the world class wrestling on the mat—it'll also be about recognizing athletes and coaches for the contributions they've made to the New York City wrestling community.  

This annual BTS tradition will award 12 individuals on a range of contributions, on or off the mat, including in the classroom. The nomination form, which is open to the NYC wrestling community as a whole, will close at midnight on Tuesday, April 18th Recipients will be selected by the BTS staff on Wednesday, April 19th.  

Multiple nominations are welcome and encouraged. Since only one nomination can be submitted at a time, you can click on the "Submit Another Response" to make additional nominations. The nomination form can be found here.

 

The awards are as follows: 

1. Junior League Female Wrestler of the Year - Given to the Beat The Streets Junior League Female wrestler with the most success on the mat 

2. Junior League Male Wrestler of the Year - Given to the Beat The Streets Junior League Male wrestler with the most success on the mat 

3. Male Student-Athlete Award - Awarded to the Senior New York City male wrestlers who exhibit the greatest combination of academic and extracurricular success and achievement, in partnership with dedication, leadership, and commitment on the mat. A secondary concern is success on the mat. This is a career achievement award. 

4. Female Student-Athlete Award - Awarded to the Senior New York City female wrestlers who exhibit the greatest combination of academic and extracurricular success and achievement, in partnership with dedication, leadership, and commitment on the mat. A secondary concern is success on the mat. This is a career achievement award. 

5. Atlas Award - Given to the Senior New York City male wrestler who has picked up New York City wrestling and put it on his back to carry it into new territory, set new standards, and advance the legacy of Beat the Streets. This is a career achievement award with a primary focus of on-the-mat success while maintaining a positive reputation and eliciting respect from coaches and peers. 

6. Lady Liberty Award - Given to the Senior New York City female wrestler who has stood as the beacon of opportunity and promise, representing all that is strong and proud of New York City women's wrestling. This is a career achievement award with a primary focus of on-the-mat success while maintaining a positive reputation and eliciting respect from coaches and peers.  

7. GRIT - Given to the Senior New York City wrestler who has demonstrated true GRIT. This wrestler has embraced the grind, is a tireless worker, and emblematic of a “Beat The Streets Kid.” The GRIT winner is not necessarily the most talented wrestler, but has shown improvement over the year / career due to his / her tireless effort and dedication to the sport.  

8. Junior League Coach of the Year - Given to the BTS Junior League coach who best exemplifies and carries out the mission and goals of Beat the Streets. 

9. Girls High School Coach of the Year - Given to the New York City Girls High School Head Coach who best exemplifies and carries out the mission and goals of Beat the Streets. 

10. Boys High School Coach of the Year - Given to the New York City Boys High School Head Coach who best exemplifies and carries out the mission and goals of Beat the Streets. 

11. Assistant Coach of the Year - Given to the New York City Assistant Coach who best exemplifies and carries out the mission and goals of Beat the Streets. The Assistant Coach of the year can come from a Boys H.S., Girls H.S., or Junior League Team. 

12. NYC Wrestling Volunteer of the Year - Given to an individual who gave of his / her time to help advance and further the Mission of Beat The Streets and benefit NYC Wrestling.
