Beat The Streets - New York City Wrestling

The first College Prep & Clinic of the 2017-2018 school year took place on Sunday, October 1. 44 BTSNY youth showed up for the opportunity to attend a College Prep workshop and wrestling clinic at Columbia's Dodge Fitness Center. The workshop was presented by Gene Zanetti of Wrestling Mindset and the clinic was done by Valentin Kalika, Helen Maroulis'  personal coach and New York City Regional Training Center (NYC RTC) Coach.

The day started at 1:00 PM with two simultaneous workshops. Kalika provided a coach education workshop for the BTS training center coaches while Wrestling Mindset gave a "Goal-Setting" presentation to the youthWhen the college prep workshop concluded, the student-athletes in attendance were able to take part in a one-hour clinic with Valentin Kalika

At the end of Goal-Setting, Gene Zanetti asked five student-athletes to come up to the front of the room. The five who boldly stood up had a tough and uncomfortable hurdle to jump over—to affirm to the whole group, largely made up of their peers, their long-term goals and missions.  For the youth who accomplished this task, their goals are now public. They will be held accountable for doing the work to achieve their goals and this will make them more likely to achieve their dreams.

Dmitriy Landa, Brooklyn Training Center Head Coach & Junior League coach, thought this was an amazing opportunity. "It is great to have one of the best coaches in the world here to help our kids get better," said Landa.
