Beat The Streets - New York City Wrestling

On Sunday, January 7, 32 Junior League wrestlers headed to Somers High School for the Somers Youth Wrestling Tournament The Beat the Streets team participated in three of the five brackets: Midget, Novice, and Schoolboy.  While BTS placed third and second in Midget and Novice, respectively, the team had a strong win for the Schoolboy division. This allowed Beat the Streets to win the team championship across all divisions. The overall record for BTS was 75-27.

The David A. Boody team, which is coached by Alex Karpov, was notable for not losing even a single match to outside competition. BTS had two champions from the Midget division (Alisajjod Kakhramonov and Rasul Kakhramonov), three champions from the Novice division (Alirezo Kakhramonov, Amir Avazov, and Dennis Krupnik), and seven champions in the Schoolboy division (Sulayman Bah, Mitchell Barcus, Devone Bogie, Carlos Guzman, Cameron MayfieldKasson Potts, and Isaias Torres). Jaime Gray, BTSNY Director of Programming, observed how tough the kids are individually and how cohesive they are as a group. The latter is especially impressive because, like the Par-Troy Wrestling Club Holiday Duals, this tournament was an opportunity for Junior League wrestlers from all five boroughs to compete together instead of against each other. "We had kids from an array of different backgrounds and languages-- but they all speak the same wrestling language and that was moving to watch," said Gray.

Daniel Bogie, a senior at Eagle Academy, was also along for the trip. "This was fun. I love coming to meets and helping the next generation of Beat the Streets kids," said Bogie. Bogie also expressed wanting to come back after college to coach in NYC.

Considering their last two winning performances, we look forward to seeing how our Junior League wrestlers do at the MPS Memorial Islip, their next tournament as BTS team this month.
