Beat The Streets - New York City Wrestling

Due to Memorial Day, practice at the Manhattan Training Center has been cancelled for Monday, May 30th, 2011.

Yesterday, Sunday, May 22nd, 2011, Beat the Streets held its first club freestyle dual meet championship at the Rochdale Community Center in Jamaica, Queens.

Eight of our 12 Spring Clubs participated in the event, with representatives from over 20 different High Schools.  The Madison Knights from Brooklyn took home the first place trophy followed by Wingate, Grand St. and the Gladiators. Deuly Espinal from Grand St. Campus was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.

BTS Program Manager Ryan Cooley set up and ran the entire event, in cooperation with the South East Queens Wrestling Association (SEQWA).

The event was held on four mats beginning at 11am and each team wrestled four matches.  The entire tournament and awards ceremony wrapped up by 3:15pm.

Many thanks to Ryan and SEQWA for a great afternoon.  We plan to do a Folkstyle club duals in October.  We will keep you posted.

Several members of the Iranian National Team are leading a clinic at the BTS Manhattan Training Center Friday, May 27th, 2011 from 5:00pm-7:30pm, sharp (the gym is being used following the clinic, so punctuality will be necessary).
