Beat the Streets caps 2022 Junior League season with City Championship

More than 40 wrestlers claimed individual city titles, while three different teams took home a championship.

Beat the Streets New York crowned more than 40 individual champions and three team champions at the 2022 Junior League City Championship on Sunday at Harry S Truman High School in the Bronx.


Myra Barnes IS 24 scored 132 points to claim the novice division title ahead of Elite Wrestling Academy (84) and Cornerstone Academy (79). PS 71 Rose Scala (77) and PS 178 (77) rounded out the top five.


Cornerstone Academy took the girls division crown with 89 points over team Excellence (63). Elite Wrestling Academy (35), Nathaniel Hawthorne MS 74 (31) and The Christa McAulliffe School IS 187 (30) all finished in the top five.


In the standard division, Eagle Academy took the top spot with 179 points. Cornerstone Academy (112), PS 5 Port Morris (108), MS 129 (78) and Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy (59) each claimed a top-five finish.


Eric Bocanegra Jr. of Harlem Jets Wrestling Club and

Leona Gao of Crista McAulliffe School IS 187 each received the Oustanding Wrestler award for the boys and girls standard divisions, respectively. Gao was also the only girl to also be a finalist in the standard division.
