2 Beat the Streets New York Academy student-athletes win state titles

Twelve BTSNY student-athletes qualified for the USA Wrestling National Championships in July in Fargo, North Dakota.

Beat the Streets New York Academy student-athletes Alessandra Elliott and Oumar Tounkara each won a state title at the Jeff Blatnick New York State Olympic Style Wrestling Championships this past weekend.

Elliott, who won a 16U national title in 2021 and was a 2022 junior All-American, claimed the 144-pound state title in junior women's freestyle. She had two technical falls, outscoring her opponents 22-0.

Tounkara won the 113-pound title in the junior Greco-Roman division, with a technical fall and a decision. He also took third in junior freestyle.

Elliott and Tounkara along with 10 other BTSNY student-athletes punched their ticket to the USA Wrestling National Championships with a top-three finish.

Tounkara is joined by five BTSNY Academy boys to earn a spot at the national tournament. Firdavs Ahmadzoda (120) and Kimoni Giles (132) each took second in 16U freestyle. Devone Bogie (160) and Cristian Cruz (132) were second and third, respectively, in the junior Greco-Roman division. Bilali Assoumanou (132) took third in the 16U Greco-Roman division.

Elliott is among six BTSNY girls to qualify for nationals. Marielys Lugo (106) took third in the 16U division. In the junior division, Isabella Lorenzana (225) was second, and Alexis Elson (106), Princess Ibtihaj (127) and Ariel Ofri-Akman (180) were all third.

The 16U and junior national championships will be July 14-22 at the FargoDome in Fargo, North Dakota. The tournament will have competition in men's and women's freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
