Beat the Streets' Oumar Tounkara takes 8th place at 2024 Super 32

The Bronx native secured six wins to claim another top eight finish at a national tournament.

Oumar Tounkara earned eighth place at 113 pounds at the Super 32 Challenge tournament on Sunday at Greensboro Coliseum Complex in North Carolina.

Tounkara, who is part of the Beat the Streets Academy program, scored three wins to start the tournament before falling by only three points in the round of 16. He rebounded with two falls and a two-point decision before dropping his last two matches by decision.

Tounkara's performance marked the third time this year he has claimed at least a top eight finish at a national tournament. He won a national title at the National School Coaches Association in April and eighth place at the USA Wrestling Junior and 16U National Championships in July.

Tounkara started wrestling with the BTS Junior League, New York City's only middle school wrestling league, at M.S. 129 in The Bronx. He is now a senior at New York Military Academy.

Since being founded in 2005, Beat the Streets has pioneered a movement that now includes 150 individual wrestling programs, a youth league and the first girls high school league.

BTS works to develop the full human and athletic potential of New York City urban youth and strengthen the city's wrestling culture. BTS aims to make a lifelong impact on student-athletes through the lessons learned on the wrestling mat -- discipline, perseverance, self-reliance, humility and a strong work ethic.
