New York City student-athletes from public, catholic and independent schools will compete for the title of "best in the city."

The best New York City boys high school wrestlers will be crowned at the Donald Douglas Memorial Wrestling Championships on Saturday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, Jan. 26 at The Michael J. Petrides School on Staten Island.

New York City's best high school wrestlers from the Public Schools Athletic League, Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) and New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) will compete for the title of "best in the city." The tournament will feature up to 32 wrestlers in each of the 13 weight classes.

The two-day tournament will start at 9 a.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Semifinal matches are slated to start at noon Sunday with championship matches to begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per entry and the tournament will be livestreamed on FloWrestling.org

Formerly named the NYC Mayor's Cup Wrestling Championship - the tournament in its 20th edition - has been renamed to honor the late Donald Douglas, a former PSAL Executive Director, who died of a heart attack at age 58 in 2021. The Brooklyn native and Bushwick High School alumnus spent more than 35 years working for the New York City Department of Education. He also served as a member of the Beat the Streets Wrestling Board of Directors.
